BIOGRAPHY

Ivy, born Park Eunhye, grew up around music with a mother who studied singing at university and a father who played drums in the Navy symphony. So it was almost inevitable that she would go into music in some form herself. She was apparently a terrible dancer in her youth so had to train hard to improve, a fact that still makes her nervous about performing to this day.

Before making her debut as a singer, she was featured as an actress in the video for Flower"s Fall by Lee Soo-Young in 2001.

Ivy is somewhat unique in the fact that she does not mime except in unavoidable situations, even though part of her performance is her singing while dancing. She stated in an interview that to train for this she sung whilst on the treadmill for four years before her debut so that this was not a problem. It has also been reported that during this time she had to practice singing for up to 12 hours a day in order to develop a powerful voice. Her management company was so convinced that she would be successful that they invested in excess of a billion won into her training, promotion and marketing.

She made her debut in 2005 with the album My Sweet and Free Day. Her management had requested that Dexter Simmons, who has worked with the likes of American singers Monica and Beyonce Knowles, be in charge of mastering and producing to ensure the best quality album possible from such a new vocalist. Although the album was vocally very strong, her record label decided to pursue a more ?sexy? image for her by releasing Onulbam Il as her debut single. It wasn"t until her third single I Am A Fool, that she was able to showcase her voice rather than her image. Although her debut album was not an overwhelming success it had steady sales that allowed it to become the 48th best selling album of the year.

Most of 2006 was left preparing for her second album, although she did take the time to collaborate with the boy band Shinhwa on the track Highway Star.

She made a return in early 2007 with the release of a second album entitled A Sweet Moment. This was significantly more successful than her first offering and it appears to have put her firmly on the radar in terms of Korean pop artists.

The number one single Sonata of Temptation, which features samples from the Beethoven"s Fur Elise, was met with controversy due to its video. The video was banned after a court ruled in favour of the Japanese Film Company Square-Enix due to scenes from the video being plagiarised from the movie Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children. The main scenes from the video are recreating a fight sequences between characters Tifa and Loz. Although the video does feature a disclaimer, the scenes were said to be used without permission and the video was banned from being shown on television. Despite, or inspite of, all of this the single still became a record breaking number 1, scoring a chart record of 997 points. The second single from this album, If You"re Gonna Be Like This, proved her to be more than just a pretty face due to its powerful vocals.

Due to her recent popularity she has been hired to advertise various products including Soft L Green Tea and even the sports brand Reebok.
